Books For Ghana

Akwaaba! Welcome!

My name is Terri Nagan, and I am the founder of Books For Ghana, an as of yet unincorporated non profit organization. I am a 23 years old graduate of UC Santa Cruz, and will soon be leaving for Cameroon with the US Peace Corps.

After I graduated from UCSC, I decided to volunteer in Africa. To this day, I can't tell you exactly why I chose to do so, but it was the best choice I've ever made. It changed my life. From May to August, 2003, I taught English in Kumawu, a small town in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, West Africa. The school where I taught is called Otuo Acheampong. It is a school for children in nursery school to 9th grade, and has about 700 students. While there, I organized a small library for the children and teachers. Now that I am back in the US, I collect and send books to Ghana on a monthly basis. I also wire money via Western Union to some of my colleagues and friends so that they can send their children to school (even public school is not free in Ghana).

If you would like to donate books, school supplies, or money, feel free to email me. I'd love to hear from you. Also, don't forget to visit my other website for Books For Ghana.

This is a picture of me and my friend Ellen Appiah. She is the younger sister of Cosmos Appiah, who was one of my best students at Otuo Acheampong School in Kumawu. The picture was taken outside the Appiah home by my friend Regina.
